It is a freeware program that is constantly updated and eliminates viruses and spyware efficiently. It often deletes a virus as soon as it enters your system.
Here are the steps to take.
1. Download Avast and follow the registration process.http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-…
2. Install Avast.
3. Uninstall your current anti-virus software from your system. Running more than one security program can decrease the effectiveness of your anti-virus software. Make sure that Windows Firewall is running in the Security Center under Control Panel.
4. Right-click on the Avast icon in your taskbar. Its the “a” in the bottom right hand corner.
5. Choose “Start avast! Antivirus.”
6. Avast will run a short memory check.
7. The memory check will close and another window will open. These are the directions for avast. Minimize or close this window.
8. A grey rectangular screen will open on your desktop. This is the anti-virus program.
9. Right click on the gray screen and choose “Schedule Boot-Time Scan.”
10. Another gray screen will open.
11. Choose the following circles and boxes.
Scan all local discs
Scan archive files
Advanced options
12. Under advanced options choose the following from the first pull down menu.
Delete infected file
13. In the second pull down menu choose the following.
Allow delete or move
14. Another gray window will open. Choose “Yes.” This box will close.
15. Then choose “Schedule.”
16. Another gray box will open. Choose “No.”
17. When you are ready to run the scan, close all programs and restart your computer. It is a good idea to run this scan during a time when you will not need your computer. Consider running the scan when you leave for work or when you go to bed. It is a very thorough scan and can take a couple of hours.
